Don’t Forget: Annual Dog Licenses Are Required in PA

Est. Read Time: 2 mins

Did you know that Pennsylvania law mandates that all dogs older than three months be licensed? Annual dog licenses must be purchased by Jan. 1 each year regardless of when the license was purchased the previous year, according to the website PADogLicense.com.1357576857_7280_Capture

Both annual and lifetime licenses are available for purchase from Northampton County, as well as from a number of sub-agents located throughout the county. In Hellertown, for example, dog licenses are sold at Neighbors Home & Garden Center, 38 Main St.

If you plan to purchase your dog license from the county, you should mail a check payable for the amount indicated on the application (available for download from the county’s website) to the County of Northampton.

Mail the check, application and a self-addressed, stamped envelope to:

Revenue Office, 2nd Floor, Room 2132
Northampton County Courthouse
669 Washington St.
Easton, PA 18042

A complete list of annual and lifetime dog license fees is also posted on the Northampton County website.

According to a December 2013 press release from the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, owners who fail to license their dogs can be fined up to $300.

“Dog ownership comes with a lot of responsibilities, and licensing your dog is on the top of the list,” Pennsylvania Secretary of Agriculture George Greig said in the news release, which states that “a license helps animal control and shelters identify your dog and get him back home safely.”

More information about the reasons for licensing dogs as well as how to purchase a license is also posted on the department’s website.
