Hellertown Police said in a news release Monday that a borough man was recently charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest, following an alleged incident in the 600 block of Main Street.

Police said officers responded to that area for a medical assistance call shortly after 4 p.m. Thursday.

At that time, police said Kyle Weirback, 30, of the 600 block of Main Street, began cursing at officers because the lights and sirens used had woken him up.

An article published by the Express-Times that cites court records says Weirback was passed out on the street and was upset because his rest had been disturbed.

After being woken, Weirback refused to stop using obscenities while citizens were present on the street in the business district, the news release said.

Police then decided to place him under arrest.

In the process of taking Weirback into custody, police said he tried to get away from them and run into his home.

“In the struggle to get away, he grabbed one officer by his hand and caused (a) minor injury,” the news release indicated.

Following his arrest, Weirback was arraigned before District Judge Roy Manwaring and committed to Northampton County Prison in lieu of 10 percent of $10,000 bail, police said.

The Express-Times article, which was published Friday, indicates that a third party posted Weirback’s bail.
