A GoFundMe campaign has been established to help defray veterinary expenses incurred by the owner of a 7-month-old puppy run over by a car while on a doggie play date in Lower Saucon Township Wednesday.

Nina, a 7-month-old Cane Corso puppy, was injured when she run over by a car in Lower Saucon Township May 13.

Nina, a 7-month-old Cane Corso puppy, was injured when she run over by a car in Lower Saucon Township May 13.

Allison Atkinson said she and her dog Nina–a Cane Corso–were near Black River Road when Nina followed another dog into the road and was run over by the front and back wheels of a passing vehicle.

“The guy ran a stop sign and never stepped on the brake once,” Atkinson said. “He did stop after the fact, get out of the car, look at us (me crying and screaming) and get back in his car and drive away.”

Nina was left bleeding from her nose and mouth “with no use of her back end,” and was rushed to North Saucon Animal Hospital, where she was stabilized and put on pain medicine, Atkinson explained.

She credited a veterinarian from the practice on Rt. 378 in Lower Saucon with doing “an amazing job” by personally responding to the scene of the accident to begin treatment.

Atkinson said one of Nina’s hind legs may need to be amputated, and the extent of any damage to her spinal cord is currently unknown. She will be receiving an MRI, according to an update posted Thursday evening.

So far 31 donations have been made to the GoFundMe account, with a total of $1,355 raised toward a goal of $7,500 in a little over a day.

“Allison and her boyfriend David Seip are heart broken,” wrote Celia Fodero, who established the GoFundMe page to help her friend. “They are praying that Nina pulls through, but also realize that the level of veterinary care that is needed for her is going to be very expensive. Please help take some of the worry of the financial burden off of their shoulders so they can focus on Nina. Any amount donated will be so greatly appreciated.”
