The “Tri for Hailey” is for children 5 to 13 years old and will be held Saturday, July 11 at Dimmick Park and the adjacent Hellertown Pool.

Proceeds from the event will be split between Hailey Carroll, 7, who receives treatments at St. Jude Children’s Hospital in Memphis, Tenn., and the ACS.

The triathlon’s structure will include three “waves” designed to be age-appropriate:

Wave 1: Short Distance (ages 5-7)
“Swim*” across the pool; Bike one loop of park driveway (about ½ mile);
Run 1.5 loops around the pavilion (Relay for Life loop – about ¼ mile)

Wave 2: Medium Distance (ages 8-10)
“Swim*” across the pool two times; Bike the loop of park driveway two times (about 1 mile);
Run 2.5 loops around the pavilion (Relay for Life loop – about 3/8 mile)

Wave 3: Long Distance (ages 11-13)
“Swim*” across the pool three times; Bike the loop of park driveway three times (about 1½ mile);
Run 3.5 loops around the pavilion (Relay for Life loop – about 5/8 mile)

Wave 1–the first wave–will start at 8 a.m.

Children will be able to walk or use floaties to “swim” across the pool; during the aquatic part of the triathlon they will need to be in water up to their navel.

The entry fee for the triathlon is $20 per child ($15 for additional children from the same family) through June 29. From June 30 to the race day, the entry fee is $25.

To be guaranteed a triathlon T-shirt, registrations must be received by June 11.

A parent/guardian for each child must be present for the duration of the triathlon.

Helmets are required, and children who are five years old must be eligible for kindergarten for the 2015-2016 school year.

All participants will receive a medal, and there will be a raffle featuring prizes valued at more than $200 at the end of the event ($5 per raffle ticket).

Volunteers/donors are needed for the kids’ triathlon. To sign up, visit a page that has been set up online.
