Herr’s Sour Cream and Onion Chips Recalled

Giant Food Stores announced Wednesday that following a recall by Herr’s Foods, Inc., it has removed from sale Herr’s Sour Cream and Onion Potato Chips “because the declaration ‘gluten free’ was inadvertently included on the front panel of the package.”herrs-bigsnak-potato-chips-89087

“This product is not gluten free,” Giant said in a news release. “This product is safe to consume for individuals who do not suffer from a gluten allergy or intolerance.”

The following product is included in the recall:

  • Herr’s Sour Cream and Onion Potato Chip, 1.875 oz., UPC 7260000061, with a product code of 122

Giant said it hasn’t received any reports of illnesses to date.

“People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to gluten may run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product,” the store said. “Symptoms of food allergies typically appear from within a few minutes to two hours after a person has eaten the food to which he or she is allergic. Allergic reactions can include: hives; flushed skin or rash; tingling or itchy sensation in the mouth; face, tongue, or lip swelling; vomiting and/or diarrhea; abdominal cramps; coughing or wheezing; dizziness and/or lightheadedness; swelling of the throat and vocal cords; difficulty breathing; loss of consciousness.”

Customers who wish to receive a refund for their purchase of the recalled product should discard any unused portions and bring their purchase receipt to any Giant.
