LaRue ‘Ike’ R. Durn, 85, of Emmaus (Obituary Brought to You by Heintzelman Funeral Home)

LaRue “Ike” R. Durn, 85, of Emmaus, died Sunday, Dec. 6, 2015 at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest, Salisbury Township. He was the husband of Julia A. (Miller) Durn and they celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary on Aug. 29. He was born in Bethlehem on July 7, 1930 to the late William E. and Miriam K. (Beck) Durn. LaRue worked at Lehigh University for seven years as a research scientist, retiring in 1993. He was a member of the Berean Bible Church, Ephrata. He previously worked at Western Electric Co., Allentown, retiring as an engineering manager in 1984 after 26 years of service. LaRue served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. His accomplishments include but were not limited to: earning his B.S. in electrical engineering in 1958 at Lehigh University; earning his M.S. in metallurgical engineering in 1964 at Lehigh University; playing professional baseball with Stroudsburg of the North Atlantic League; membership in Phi Beta Kappa at Lehigh University; life membership in the Institute of Electrical & Electronic Engineers; being past director and manager (for 12 years) of Southern Lehigh Little League; being past coach (for five years) of Southern Lehigh Legion Baseball; serving for six years on the Board of Directors for Lehigh Valley Junior Achievement.

SURVIVORS

In addition to his loving wife; sons: Randall B. (Janet) Durn of Indian Land, S.C., Karl W. (Ruth) Durn of Greenville, S.C.; Roger W. (Karen) Durn of Macungie; Daniel J. (Sandra) Durn of Austin, Texas; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild. He was predeceased by a brother: LaMar C. Durn; and a grandson: Joseph Durn.

FUNERAL SERVICE

Family and friends are invited to call from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 11, 2015 at the Heintzelman Funeral Home Inc., 326 Main St., Hellertown. The calling hour will be followed by the service at 11 a.m. The interment will conclude services at Woodland Cemetery, Upper Saucon Township.
