Just a day after they were recognized for their outstanding season with a resolution passed by Lower Saucon Township Council, the District 11 champion Saucon Valley football team was honored at a high school pep rally Thursday.
Band director Herb Payung, who is a member of Hellertown Borough Council, read a proclamation from council and Mayor Richard Fluck that highlighted many of the Panthers’ accomplishments.
Head coach Matt Evancho also spoke about the team’s success this season at the pep rally, which was attended by most of the school and included recognition of many other student-athletes as well as the Saucon Valley Panther, who was voted best mascot in the Lehigh Valley in a recent Morning Call poll.
The Panther lived up to her crowd-pleasing reputation by dancing as the high school cheerleaders performed a routine and generating lots of smiles.
Other highlights of the afternoon rally included remarks by principal Eric Kahler, a game of elimination and the music of the high school band.
