Hellertown Girls Raise Carnival Spending Money with Iced Tea Stand

Est. Read Time: 2 mins

The smiling faces of sisters Abbie (left) and Bri and their cousin Ava (center) were hard to resist as they sold iced tea for $1.00 a glass from a stand in front of Abbie and Bri’s home on Linden Avenue in Hellertown Friday, when the heat and humidity made it feel like it was almost 100 degrees outside.

On a sweltering day when the temperature felt like it was in the triple digits there was nothing more refreshing than a cold drink, and three enterprising Hellertown girls came to the rescue of numerous parched passers-by on Linden Avenue in the borough.

Sisters Bri and Abbie and their cousin Ava set up an iced tea stand under a canopy in front of Abbie and Bri’s house and were able to sell dozens of cups of fresh-brewed sweet tea to motorists, many of whom were waved to as they drove into or out of nearby Silver Creek Country Club.

The girls were inspired to set up the stand when they told Abbie and Bri’s mom they needed spending money for the Dewey Fire Company Carnival, which they plan to visit Friday night.

Jen Kaufman suggested they sell iced tea as a way to earn their spending money, and as of about 2 p.m. they had raked in about $30, Ava said. Shortly afterward they had to close down the stand after running out of red Solo cups, but by then they had raised enough money to enjoy some rides, food and fun at the carnival.

Abbie, Ava and Bri were raising money by selling iced tea so they would have spending money for the Dewey Fire Co. Carnival Friday.
