The Education Day opening tip between Lehigh University and Delaware State.
The entire Saucon Valley Middle School accepted an invite from Lehigh University Department of Athletics to attend the 7th Annual Lehigh University Education Day.
Organized by SVMS Assistant Principal Tom Halcisak who called the day a “tremendous success”, over 700 energized students represented Saucon Valley Middle School along with about 80 staff members. The Panthers transformed themselves into Mountain Hawks for the day and dressed in brown and white to cheer Lehigh women’s basketball team to victory against Delaware State University.

It was an exciting game with a scheduled 11 a.m tip-off. The Mountain Hawks started slow, but did eventually heat-up and overcome a fourteen point deficit to pull out the eleven point victory. The Lehigh Mountain Hawks defeated the Delaware State Hornets 91-80.
From center-court the SVMS chorus sang the national anthem.
In addition to enthusiastically supporting the home team with their cheers and energy, Saucon Valley Middle School played an integral role in Wednesday’s events. To open the festivities the SVMS chorus led by music teacher Lauren Sakasitz sang the national Anthem to a very appreciative crowd.

Also actively participating in today’s event were the SVMS cheerleaders. The girls spent most of their time cheering, but they were also kept busy distributing foam basketballs and Lehigh T-shirts much to the delight of an estimated 3,900 spectators.

During the halftime break rambunctious fans from all over the Lehigh Valley heard some inspirational words from current and former Lehigh student athletes including All-American 125 pound junior wrestling standout Darian Cruz.

Lehigh University’s Education Day was a fantastic experience for Saucon Valley students and others throughout the Lehigh Valley. There were smiles galore from beginning to end. A Saucon Source salute goes out to Lehigh University for their hospitality and for making this event possible. Another salute goes out to the students of SVMS who represented their town with enthusiasm and pride.
