After a setback last week against powerful Pennridge, the Saucon Valley Girls’ lacrosse team got back on the winning track Monday afternoon with an 18-4 win over the Liberty Lady Hurricanes.  The Panthers improved to 5-2 this season while the Canes dropped to 1-6.

Sophomore midfielder Katherine Naiburg got the scoring started for the Panthers. Naiburg converted a Helen Kreschollek pass into a goal only :38 seconds into the game. Naiburg then paid it forward with an assist to freshman Camryn Zavacky with 16:25 remaining in the first half.  Then, Zavacky from behind the net, found sophomore Megan Bredbenner cutting toward the goal.  Bredbenner was able to finish and the Panthers were up 3-0 about ten minutes into the game.

As usual Sophomore Kat Naiburg was working hard.

The Hurricanes got on the board at 14:03, but the Panthers responded with a score from Brooke Riefenstahl and a couple goals by senior Madison Stump.  With the score 6-1 at the 7:53 mark the Hurricanes called a timeout to try and slow the Panthers down. Stump, however, only :18 seconds after the Liberty timeout converted a cross-crease feed from Kiele Riefenstahl to make it 7-1 in favor of the Panthers.

Coach Hoff and the Panthers refined their strategy during the Hurricane timeout.

Liberty scored their second goal of the game at 6:54, but it would be their last of the first half.  Saucon Valley finished the first half with a pair of goals from both Brooke Riefenstahl and Camryn Zavacky.  Helen Kreschollek and Megan Bredbenner also added scores to make it 13-2 at the half.  Bredbenner’s strike at 2:52 put the mercy-rule clock in motion.

With the mercy-rule clock running the entire second half, Saucon Valley outscored the Hurricanes 5-2.  Bredbenner and Kreschollek each had two goals down the stretch and Maddie Stump added another for the Panthers making it an 18-4 final.
