Nate Orr was flying high in Saucon Valley’s final track meet on their antiquated cinder surface.

On Tuesday the Saucon Valley Track & Field teams went head-to-head with the Northern Lehigh Bulldogs.  It was a great day for both the Panthers Boys’ and Girls’ teams.  Not only did the Panthers come away with victories, but their next home track meet (next season) will be contested on a modernized, all-weather surface.

Tuesday’s Track & Field competition was the last on Saucon Valley’s antiquated cinder surface.  Our community finally welcomes the installation of an all-weather track. The era of Panther athletes competing on a restrictive, uncomfortable and inefficient cinder surface is history.

Scroll down to see the results of the Northern Lehigh track meet, but first here is a SPECIAL UPDATE on the new track facility that Track & Field Coach, Ed Kolosky provided Saucon Source!

“The Saucon Valley School Board unanimously approved the construction and installation of a six lane all weather track last month.  The project is slated to begin in early May and will be completed prior to the start of football practice the second week of August.

The new facility will also include two rubber “D’s” at opposite ends of the football field. The “D” on the south end will be home to the high jump, which was previously contested in a parking lot adjacent to the track. The “D” on the north end of the field will have two jump pits facing opposite directions, as well as a pole vault pit which will be relocated so contestants will no longer vault into the late afternoon sun. A partial sidewalk around the fence at both ends will allow spectators to view those venues from a small set of bleachers.

The benefits of this new facility are all encompassing for student athletes, gym classes, as well as the community.  The installation of our new facility will now put our athletes on a level playing field with their competition. It allows us to practice and compete during inclement weather. In addition, our maintenance workers will no longer have to devote days of their time preparing the facility for meets. Over the long run, that alone, will be very cost effective.
Comments from coaches from other Colonial League teams have been directed to the fact of how successful we’ve been on cinders.  We are excited about out future with this new facility!
Our neighbors over at Lehigh University have been and continue to be very generous by allowing the community and track and field athletes from around the Lehigh Valley to use their facility when their own sports teams are not in session.
We thank the Saucon Valley School Board for their investment in our future, Bob Frey and Wally Zimpfer for allowing me to have a stake in the decision making process, and D’Huy Engineering for their meticulous attention to detail in the design and layout of the new facility.”
Coach Ed Kolosky
