If you have breathing difficulties or certain pre-existing medical conditions you may want to consider sheltering indoors in an air conditioned environment Sunday.

That’s because the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) has issued a Code Orange air quality alert Sunday, June 17 for Northampton, Lehigh and Berks counties.

A Code Orange air quality alert means air pollution concentrations within the region may become unhealthy for sensitive groups.

Sensitive groups include children, asthma sufferers, people with heart disease or other lung diseases and the elderly.

The effects of air pollution can be minimized by avoiding strenuous activity or exercise outdoors.

For more information on the alert visit AirNow.gov.

Sunday’s forecast high temperature is 89 degrees, and Monday will be even hotter, with a high of 93 forecast by the National Weather Service.
