A popular breakfast and lunch spot in Lower Saucon Township is reopening at 6 a.m. Friday, Jan. 18, with a brand new look its owner hopes residents will stop by to check out.
The Bagel Basket in the Society Hill shopping plaza has been closed for the past 10 days as workers have been busy repainting the restaurant in Saucon Valley colors (black and crimson with grey trim), installing a new granite coffee bar, mounting flatscreen TVs that will digitally display menus and other information, updating interior lighting and making other improvements owner Sunny Qureshi says will give the cozy space a hip, urban feel.
“It was due (for a makeover),” Qureshi said Thursday, as workers put the finishing touches on the project.
“Our customers deserve the best…nothing but good things for all the Lower Saucon and Hellertown people who’ve been supporting us for the last 10 years,” he added.
One thing that won’t be changing is the restaurant’s extensive menu, which includes a large variety of freshly-made bagels, flavored cream cheese spreads, salads, made-to-order deli sandwiches, breakfast sandwiches and more.
The Bagel Basket is located at 1850 Friedensville Road, Hellertown, Pa., and is open daily from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., with inside seating available year-round as well as outside seating available seasonally.
It is reopening just in time to welcome back Lehigh University students, with whom it is quite popular.
Located near the school’s Goodman Campus, the eatery has a loyal following among undergraduate and graduate students, many of whom live nearby.
It was even the subject of a 2016 article in the school’s newspaper, The Brown and White, which noted that the Bagel Basket “is welcoming and friendly, filled with energy as the kitchen bustles and workers run around quickly aiding customers.”

Qureshi also owns another restaurant, Dean’s Deli, located in Riegelsville, Bucks County.
