Police Activity Shuts Part of Easton Road in Hellertown

Hellertown police vehicles line the 1000 block of Easton Road following an incident in which the Northampton County Coroner was called. A section of the road was closed due to police activity from before 7 a.m. til about 8 a.m.

Hellertown police and other emergency responders were on the scene of an unfolding incident in the 1000 block of Easton Road in the borough Friday morning.

The exact nature of the incident is unclear, but news reports indicated police were using a megaphone and that a person may have been barricaded inside a home.

A Morning Call reporter at the scene tweeted just before 8 a.m. that police had entered the home and that the Northampton County Coroner had been called to the scene.

At 6:50 a.m. the borough issued an emergency notification that said residents should “please avoid the 1000 block of Easton Road for police activity, by order of the police chief.”

At 8 a.m. another email went out indicating that the road had reopened, although police remained at the scene, where numerous law enforcement vehicles could be seen parked along the road.

Residents reported that a nearby school bus stop had to be relocated due to the police activity.

Residents also reported that television news helicopters were apparently hovering over the area.

According to county property records, the home Northampton County Coroner Zachary Lysek was called to in the 1000 block of Easton Road, Hellertown (pictured above), on Friday morning was sold just a couple of weeks ago.
