Last year at the 2018 PIAA State Track & Field Championships Saucon Valley’s Talitha Diggs had to settle for silver medals in the 200m and 400m runs. Diggs was second-best to Avonworth’s Hunter Robinson in both events. In the 200m Diggs ran a 24.24 to Robinson’s 23.98. In the 400m Diggs sprinted for a 54.95 with Robinson running a 54.10. This year would be different.
Now a year later, with Robinson currently making waves at Tulane University in Louisiana, Diggs is crushing the competition and, comparatively speaking, would have crushed Robinson this season. This past weekend Diggs absolutely flew in the 400m final at the 2019 PIAA state championships and ran a 52.82. With this time, Diggs not only earned the gold medal, but she now owns a new PIAA State championship record. The previous record of 53.11 was previously set by Williamsport’s Leah Walker in 1986.
For good measure, Diggs followed up her record-setting 400m race by scorching the competition to win the gold in the 200m dash. Diggs cruised to another golden victory with a 23.88.
Up Next: Now, as a 2x Time PIAA state champion, Talitha will take her show on the road. Her summer vacation will include the New Balance Nationals in mid-June followed by international competition in Cuba in July.
Great job Talitha, the Source is with you!
