SUMMARY:"The Colonial Beginnings of American Currency"
DESCRIPTION:As America’s 250th anniversary celebrating the separation from Britain continues\, Quakertown resident John Ambrose discusses a very practical obstacle along the path to our country’s independence; how to finance the Revolutionary War and conduct commerce in the absence of a banking system. The evolution of money\, especially early colonial paper currency\, tells a fascinating story about the birth of our democracy. Every colonial note was hand-signed in ink\, often by leaders in society who also were leading the struggle for freedom. Meet some of these patriots who risked it all in the colonies’ fight for freedom. Learn their stories by examining actual colonial notes that bear their names\, and explore how currency and colonial coinage was used.

SUMMARY:ChiliFest 2026
DESCRIPTION:Bethlehem is celebrating 30 years of its annual chili competition this fall with the return of ChiliFest on Saturday\, Oct. 17\, from 12 to 5 p.m. \nBegun in 1996\, the original chili cook-off was part of SouthSide Bethlehem’s bygone “Spring on 3rd\, What’s on 4th?” celebration. Over the years\, the cook-off evolved into ChiliFest\, now held each October in the SouthSide Arts District. Local eateries and businesses throughout the district compete for special awards\, with winners determined by festivalgoers and a panel of local celebrity judges. \n\nTo take part\, guests can purchase a ChiliFest passport which includes a sample of every competing chili along the event trail\, plus a commemorative spoon celebrating the festival’s 30th anniversary. Last year\, 24 locations competed for ChiliFest honors. Passports are $35 and available for purchase through the SouthSide Arts District website. \nThe celebration will culminate with the announcement of the 2026 Chili Champions at 5:30 p.m. on the ChiliFest main stage\, located on the South Bethlehem Greenway between New and Adams streets. \n\nAttendees can bring a nonperishable donation for the Bethlehem Parking Authority’s food drive benefiting the Hispanic Center Lehigh Valley Food Pantry. Donations can be dropped off at the SouthSide Arts District Office from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.\, and donors will receive two hours of free parking in Bethlehem’s New Street Garage.\n\nThe afternoon will feature live music from Dear Anna\, Melody Cruz\, The Billy Bauer Duo and Seth Witcher.\n\nThis event is made possible through the generous support of Lehigh University\, the Bethlehem Parking Authority\, ArtsQuest and Wind Creek Bethlehem. \nThe SouthSide Arts District is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit program of the Bethlehem Economic Development Corporation (BEDCO)\, established in 2015. SSAD’s mission is to build upon the community’s entrepreneurial\, cultural\, and artistic heritage to support economic development for South Bethlehem’s businesses.

SUMMARY:"Edge of Revolution" - DINNER PLAY PRODUCTION
DESCRIPTION:The Bachmann Players of Easton will present an original play\, “Edge of Revolution\,” at the Hellertown Historical Society’s Tavern venue with two performances on Nov. 19 and 21\, beginning at 6 p.m. each evening. Tickets are limited to 24 patrons per performance. \n“Edge of Revolution” takes place in the wake of the Boston Tea Party\, after the British Parliament has closed the port of Boston and imposed a series of harsh new laws upon Massachusetts. Now\, the citizens of Easton and Northampton County must decide where they stand. \nIn a recreation of a meeting that occurred in the Courthouse on Easton’s Centre Square in June 1774\, Patriot George Taylor\, outspoken loyalist Louis Gordon and their fellow townsmen gather to debate the crisis. Tempers rise\, alliances shift and the future of the colonies hangs in the balance. \nBlending drama\, humor\, history and audience participation\,“Edge of Revolution” invites you into a divided colonial community at the moment when protest is becoming rebellion—and ordinary citizens must choose between loyalty\, conscience and independence. \nTickets for the play are $70 for public patrons and $60 for members of the Hellertown Historical Society. Attendees will be served a traditional colonial tavern dinner of chicken pot pie in individual pans\, carrot cake muffins\, a salad and apple cobbler for dessert. Cheese and cracker trays will be placed at each table\, and adult beverages will be provided. \nTickets will be sold on a first-come\, first-served basis by using the ticket purchasing site link. You cannot buy tickets for both days in one transaction. Tickets must be purchased separately by the performance day and cannot be mixed in one transaction.
