Join the Hellertown Historical Society as we celebrate the most joyous holiday of the year with several December events that will please both adults and children of all ages.
First is the Society’s Open House on Friday, Dec. 6 from 6 to 9:30 p.m. (snow date is Saturday, Dec. 7). The Heller-Wagner Grist Mill Tavern Room will be period-decorated for the holidays to warm the heart, with plenty of complimentary refreshments and live entertainment to lift the spirit at this festive time of year. Tours of the mill and museum, a raffle drawing, a model train display and much more will greet members and guests who wish to engage in meeting old friends and making new acquaintances.
The next events are held in tandem at the Grist Mill on Sunday, Dec. 15 from noon to 4 p.m.: A Visit by Santa and Holiday Shopping at the Mill. Santa will be here to hear the Christmas wishes of children of all ages. Photos will also be available for a nominal fee. Enjoying complimentary beverages and snacks, and in the next room browse the wares of local vendors who will be selling handmade crafts, candies and other unique items to satisfy those hard-to-please people on your Christmas shopping lists. The Hellertown Historical Society Store also offers many wonderful gift items for the holidays.
During these events and also on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 7 and 8 from 1 to 4 p.m., our HHS Engineers will be running their model train layout for visitors to see. The layout features many ‘built-from-scratch’ model replicas of historic homes and other structures from Hellertown’s history, some of which are still in use today. Several trains will be racing around the town, which is lit for night time viewing. Please note that the train display is located in the lower level of the adjacent Miller’s House and is only accessible from an outside entrance with several steps. Although sufficiently wide with handrails, the entrance is not ADA accessible.
