Opening Reception for ‘A Final Look: Inside the Last Days of Martin Tower’
May 3 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
An opening reception for a new exhibit at Bethlehem’s Fox Optical & Gallery, A Final Look: Inside the Last Days of Martin Tower, will be held Friday, May 3 at 6 p.m. during the Southside Arts District’s First Friday event. The show will be on display from May 3 through June 29.
A Final Look: Inside the Last Days of Martin Tower featuring photographs by Saucon Valley native Glenn Koehler offers visitors an intimate view of one of the Lehigh Valley’s most iconic structures.
Spanning five years, the work showcased chronicles the structure from an untouched, abandoned edifice, with flora and fauna sprouting around a building that is still pristine inside, to a final glimpse into the gutted tower and its surroundings prior to its May 19, 2019 implosion.
The tower, which is the former headquarters for industrial giant Bethlehem Steel Corporation, opened in 1972 and slowly became vacant following the company’s 2001 bankruptcy.
Glenn Koehler is a photographer and writer based in Bethlehem, Pa. His photojournalistic work spans everything from disasters such as Hurricane Katrina to fine art displayed in galleries and museums. Koehler’s work has also been featured in regional publications such as The Morning Call and in national publications such as The Washington Post. He works as the Marketing and Outreach Coordinator at the National Museum of Industrial History and serves as the Director of the SouthSide Film Institute in Bethlehem.
