Register for Coopersburg 5K Run for Pulmonary Fibrosis
An event every day that begins at 12:00 am, repeating until May 17, 2019
Registration is open for the 2019 Coopersburg 5K run for Pulmonary Fibrosis, which will be held Saturday, May 25 at 8 a.m. in the borough. This timed race awards prizes to the top finishers in several categories.
The 5K route is a scenic loop course through Coopersburg borough’s historic district, with slight hills and a final stretch down Main Street.
A long-sleeve tee with this year’s specially designed emblem is guaranteed to those who have registered prior to Friday, May 17.
Other events held as part of the 5K are a 600-meter Kids Fun Run (at 7:55 a.m.) and a Health & Wellness Expo at the Coopersburg Village Center.
The 5K registration fee is $30 per person (the fee increases to $38 after May 17). Families who register more than three participants will receive a $10 discount for each family member registered thereafter. Regular registration forms must be postmarked by Friday, May 17, 2019. Checks should be made payable to: 2019 Wescoe Foundation for Pulmonary Fibrosis or WFPF.
The race raises funds for the Wescoe Foundation, which was founded in memory of Coopersburg resident and Southern Lehigh High School football coach Ron Wescoe, who passed away in 2004 after being diagnosed with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) the year before. IPF is a progressive, very rare lung disease with no known cause or cure that is characterized by scarring in the lungs. Eventually patients have trouble breathing, even at rest, and must rely on oxygen therapy. The only hope for an IPF patient’s survival is a lung transplant. The Wescoe Foundation for Pulmonary Fibrosis is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that provides support, advocacy and resources for patients and their families coping with IPF in order to help them sustain the highest quality of life possible.
