SUMMARY:Art Show - "Organic Harmony"
DESCRIPTION:“Organic Harmony” reunites transparent watercolorist Anne Landis with master metalsmith sculptor Loretta Tryon for a joint show that explores the special relationship of form\, color and nature. \nAnne is a self-taught watercolor artist whose original art work has earned awards at multiple local juried exhibits annually. The patience required for this process derives from over 30 years teaching special education\, 20 years visiting hospice patients\, leading an art therapy volunteer program and raising a family including a special needs daughter. \nShe has recently specialized in the detailed painting of true miniatures\, which are exhibited and sold in numerous juried shows throughout the United States. \nLoretta is a contemporary metalsmith based in the Lehigh Valley and is known for her elegant use of shell forming and anticlastic raising techniques. She creates sculptural works in sterling silver and bronze that blur the line between wearable art and organic form. \nLoretta’s work has been exhibited internationally and regionally\, including in Milan\, Italy\, the James A. Michener Art Museum in Doylestown\, PA\, and the State Museum of Pennsylvania. \nThe Stover Mill Gallery show runs weekends only\, starting on Saturday\, August 8 through Sunday\, August 30\, from 1 pm to 5 pm with Meet the Artist receptions the opening weekend. DESCRIPTION:On Sunday\, Sept. 13 at 7 p.m. and in commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks\, Christ Lutheran Church of Hellertown is presenting an evening of conversation and stories from the firsthand accounts of inspirational speaker\, forgiveness coach\, workshop leader\, author and former Ground Zero priest Lyndon Harris\, who served at Saint Paul’s Chapel in New York City in the immediate aftermath of the September 11 attacks. He initiated a volunteer force that rose to over 15\,000 people—serving meals\, offering supplies and giving encouragement to the rescue workers 24/7 until the site was closed eight-and-a-half months later. \nIn “The Future of Our Past: A Conversation about Tragedy and Community Healing\,” Harris will explore what the 25th anniversary might teach us as we move from tragedy toward  hope and healing\, acknowledging that every community has its own Ground Zero. Drawing on his experiences serving at Ground Zero in New York City and his own journey through PTSD\, depression and recovery\, Harris explores forgiveness\, not as forgetting or excusing wrongdoing\, but as an evidence-based practice that can help us to reclaim our future from the burdens of the past.  \nHarris is the author of the recently published memoir\, Forgiveness at Ground Zero: A Journey of  Service\, Loss\, and Redemption After 9/11.  \nAttendees will meet Lyndon Harris\, hear his moving personal story and have a new perspective about forgiveness after the 25th anniversary of 9/11.  \nThis event is open to the public and free of charge. \nChrist Lutheran Church has served the Hellertown community for generations through worship\, education\, service and outreach. Historic Bethlehem Museums & Sites (HBMS) will host the new Bethlehem Vintage & Harvest Market on Saturday\, Sept. 19\, at Historic Burnside\, 1461 Schoenersville Road in Bethlehem. Hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.\, and tickets are on sale now at HistoricBethlehem.org. HBMS is partnering with the Bethlehem Vintage Market to put on the Vintage & Harvest Market. \nThe new Vintage & Harvest Market will feature more than 75 vintage vendors from throughout the Mid-Atlantic Region highlighting collectibles\, antiques\, heirlooms and unique finds. Attendees can stroll the aisles exploring racks of vintage clothing\, crates of vinyl records\, booths featuring mid-century furniture and much more. Vendors already confirmed to attend include Jen Thunderhorse Jewelry of Philadelphia\, which offers Southwest silver\, costume pieces and deadstock biker accessories; Created by Corinne\, which turns naturally preserved plants and blooms into wearable art; and Neverending Glassworks\, which is known for its stained-glass pieces. \nIn addition to browsing thousands of collectibles\, clothing items and treasures from the past\, bargain hunters and their families will enjoy a wide variety of historical activities and living history demonstrations. These include 18th-century toys and games\, open-hearth cooking demonstrations\, quill pen writing\, blacksmithing and tours of the historic Burnside farmhouse\, barns\, summer kitchen and award-winning gardens. Children will enjoy the History Maker’s Pass that allows them to create and take home a hand-dipped beeswax candle\, candle holder and cornhusk doll. They can also decorate their own birdhouse and try the popular Artifact Challenge\, where they match items from the past with their correct names. \nThe Vintage & Harvest Market will also offer more than a dozen autumn-inspired desserts\, including apple and pumpkin pie\, cider donuts\, cranberry orange scones\, pumpkin spice ice cream and molasses sugar cookies. Desserts can be purchased from the dessert barn to enjoy at the event or take home; individuals who can’t attend the Vintage & Harvest Market but want to support HBMS can also order their favorites in advance and pick them up at the Market to Go at Historic Burnside on Friday\, Sept. 18\, from 4 to 7 p.m. \nSeveral food trucks will be on site serving up everything from Mexican cuisine to mango sticky rice. Taste Budz\, the eatery behind the blueberry grilled cheese everyone lines up for at HBMS’s Blueberry Festival\, will be at the event with apple and pumpkin delights. \nThe fall theme will extend to the Apple Barrel Tavern\, where guests ages 21 and older can purchase their favorite beverages\, including local craft brews and ciders\, as well as cocktails from Christmas City Spirits. A Tavern Pass\, which includes admission to the market and five tastings\, can be purchased in advance for only $18 ($20 the day of the event).
