A cast of talented Saucon Valley High School students will take audiences back in time to the Roaring ’20s with their 2016 spring musical, which will be performed in early March.
The winner of six TONY Awards including Best Musical, Thoroughly Modern Millie was the 2002 season’s most awarded new show on Broadway.
“Based on the 1967 Academy Award-winning film, Thoroughly Modern Millie takes place during the height of the Jazz Age in New York City, when ‘moderns’—including a flapper named Millie Dillmount—were bobbing their hair, raising their hemlines, entering the workforce and rewriting the rules of love,” a description on the Saucon Valley Theatre website states.
The plot revolves around feisty young flapper Millie, who plans to find a job and marry a wealthy employer. Though she’s fond of penniless paper clip salesman Jimmy, Millie is determined to marry the well-heeled executive Trevor Graydon III, who loves Millie’s roommate Dorothy Brown. As all four try to find love, evil landlady Mrs. Meers schemes to sell the orphaned Dorothy into white slavery
