Several Saucon Valley High School students helped make a difference by volunteering at the 2016 Lehigh Valley Walk to Defeat ALS, which was held Saturday, Oct. 15 at Coca-Cola Park in Allentown.
“They got up early on a Saturday to help a good cause, and the coordinators were thrilled to have them because a number of the other volunteers failed to show up,” said their English teacher, Genia Miller. “These kids really put themselves out there, making spontaneous decisions, high-fiving walkers, giving encouragement, petting dogs and applauding children. One of our girls walked along very slowly with the survivor of two lung transplants.”
Miller said observing the helpfulness demonstrated by her students at the Walk was itself a moving experience.
“Tears welled up in my eyes more than once,” she commented.
The student-volunteers were Emileigh Keeler, Cooper Weber, Malaika Nehal, Helen Cordes, Daniela Sanchez and Taylor Geiger.
