Lady Roughies Trample Panthers 42-33

Est. Read Time: 3 mins

Saucon Valley sophomore Olivia Williams nets one of her thirteen points from the foul line.

Just seconds into last night’s game against Catasauqua, Rough Rider, Kenzie Bradley hit a long range bomb to take a 3-0 lead over the Panthers.  After a quick Panther turnover, Catasauqua’s Giah Moore hit from far beyond the arc as well.  Moore hit two more long-range bombs in the opening quarter to help build a 12-2 Rough Rider lead.  The Panthers battled back thanks to sophomore Olivia William’s five points that closed the gap to 14-9 at the end of the first quarter of play.

Catasauqua scored the first four points in the low-scoring 2nd quarter.  In fact, it wasn’t until there was 1:40 left that the Panthers finally were able to sink a shot. Panther junior, Shannon Williams scored to make it 18-11.

Then, with :06 seconds remaining in the first half, Katherine Naiburg gathered a rebound and raced the length of the floor and hit a layup as time expired.  The score at halftime favored Catty, 22-13.

Catasauqua again hit the first four points of the 3rd quarter and extended their lead to 26-13.  Kat Naiburg tried to spark a run by the Panthers with a pair of three-pointers. However, the second Naiburg bomb did not come until there was 1:59 left to play in the quarter.  The Saucon Valley offense was struggling.  The only other points scored by the Panthers in the quarter was a Helen Kreschollek put-back to make it 32-21 with only seconds remaining.

Olivia Williams got the Panthers off to a good 4th quarter start and was able to cut the Catty lead to eight points with a bucket and a free-throw.  With 6:19 left in the game the Panthers were down 32-24.

Following a Catty five point run, the Panther defense held admirably.  Saucon took advantage and went on their own seven point run led by Olivia Williams and Helen Kreschollek. However, it was too little, too late.  The Rough Riders held off any late Panther heroics and won 42-33.

Catasauqua was led by junior Kenzie Bradley’s fourteen points.  Giah Moore added 10 more for the Roughies.

Olivia Williams had 13 points while fellow sophomore Katherine Naiburg scored 10 for Saucon Valley.

Next up for the Lady Panthers is a date at Notre Dame (Green Pond) on Thursday at 7 p.m.  Saucon will have their work cut out for them as the Crusaders are unbeaten in Colonial League play.

Good Luck Panthers, the Source is with you!
