An American Heart Association “Red Out” was held at Saucon Valley High School on Thursday, Feb. 8 during the Saucon Valley boys basketball game vs. Palisades High School.
The Red Out was student organized and led by Sydney Oskin (11th grade), Erik Sundlof (12th), Samantha Johnson (12th), Laura Gayanova (10th) and Kennedy Morgan (10th).
Dr. Deborah Sundlof, DO, FACC, who is a cardiologist at Lehigh Valley Health Network Heart Institute, spoke at halftime, educating the audience on risk factors for heart disease before teaching everyone in attendance how to do “bystander” CPR. On behalf of the AHA, she also donated three CPR mannequins to Saucon Valley High School. Sydney Oskin and Samantha Johnson assisted with the CPR reenactment, which was done to the beat of “Stayin’ Alive” (by the Bee Gees).
Over 200 people were in attendance at the basketball game and more than $900 was raised for the American Heart Association.
