SVMS Students Learn What It’s Like to ‘Walk for Water’ (Photos)

A huge amount of time and energy is spent by residents of some other countries collecting water that is safe to drink.

Here in the U.S. safe drinking water is typically no further away than the nearest kitchen or bathroom sink, but in many other parts of the world residents struggle just to find potable water, and in some cases they may have to walk miles to obtain it.

Recognition of that struggle was a key component to the Saucon Valley High School UNICEF Club’s recent simulation event, “Walk for Water.”

The event organized by the club was for middle school students and was held on the high school bus loop Sept. 26.

“This event simulates what it is like for people, specifically women, in third world countries to gather water,” teacher-advisor Jennifer Screnci said.  “Students will experience various ‘obstacles’ on their journey for water.”
