Across the United States, the first Wednesday in February is National Letter of Intent Day. It is the first day in which high school senior student-athletes all across the country officially commit to their prospective universities. Tuesday night at Saucon Valley High School, Director of Athletics, Robert Frey, was finally able to avoid Mother Nature’s wintry ways and gather an assortment of seniors who will be continuing their academic and athletic careers at the next level. Eight Panthers joined with family, friends and teammates to sign their letters during a school-sponsored celebration.
Ian Csicsek
- Parents: Wendi Hurda and Shawn Csicsek
- College Choice: Muhlenberg College
- Major: Business
- Sport: Football
- Why Muhlenberg?: Muhlenberg is close to home, has a great business program and the overall atmosphere is very friendly and family-like.
- What I will miss: What I am going to miss most is just being in classes with my friends all of the time.
Sarah Duffy
- Parents: Catharine and Patrick Duffy
- College Choice: Muhlenberg College
- Major: Neuroscience
- Sport: Lacrosse
- Why Muhlenberg?: The small class sizes, the team vibe and the medical school acceptance rate.
- What I will miss: I will miss the friends I’ve made over the years.
Josh Jones
- Parents: Karen and Michael Jones
- College Choice: George Mason University
- Major: Business Management
- Sport: Wrestling
- Why George Mason?: From an academic perspective, there are many learning opportunities there that are not offered anywhere else because of it being located so close to Washington D.C. From a wrestling perspective, they have the pieces in place to do something really big down in Fairfax.
- What I will miss: I will miss my family and friends. I will also miss my dogs.
Nick Millets
- Parents: Karen and Jeff Millets
- College Choice: Alvernia University
- Major: Sport Management
- Sport: Baseball
- Why Alvernia?: Everything there just clicked. As soon as I met the coaches and watched the players at practice, it reminded me of how our high school practices are. I just knew I wanted to be a part of it.
- What I will miss: I will miss the Saucon Valley baseball staff and my teammates.
Patrick Morrissey
- Parents: Julia and Jason Morrissey
- College Choice: East Stroudsburg University
- Major: Engineering
- Sport: Baseball
- Why East Stroudsburg?: I’ve been to the campus a bunch and just absolutely love it there. The baseball program was another big reason I chose ESU. Coach K and the staff there is just amazing.
- What I will miss: I am going to miss seeing all of my friends the most. I will also miss the teachers and coaches who have helped me along the way.
Katherine Naiburg
- Parents: Karalyn and Eric Naiburg
- College Choice: The College of New Jersey
- Major: Nursing
- Sport: Lacrosse
- Why TCNJ?: I decided to go to TCNJ because of the amazing coaches and players that I have met, whom I feel will teach me a great deal about the game. TCNJ’s nursing program is one of the best in the state and I wouldn’t want to learn about my future profession anywhere else.
- What I will miss: I’m going to miss spending time with my teammates from all of my sports who also happen to be all of my best friends.
Brooke Riefenstahl
- Parents: Jill and Keith Riefenstahl
- College Choice: Slippery Rock University
- Major: Exercise Science
- Sport: Soccer
- Why Slippery Rock?: I chose Slippery Rock because it has a very good exercise science program and there is a great team atmosphere. Every time I visit the school, I like it more and more.
- What I will miss: I am going to miss being able to play sports with some of my best friends. We have been playing together ever since elementary school.
Tim Weaver
- Parents: Julia and Kent Weaver
- College Choice: Indiana University
- Major: Undecided
- Sport: Football
- Why Indiana?: The comfort I felt with both the campus and the time I spent with the players sold me. I felt like Indiana was a place I could excel as a student and as a person.
- What I will miss: I’ve known most of my friends since middle and elementary school, and some from before then. Leaving them and starting something new without them will definitely be something I’ll need to get used to.
