Southern Lehigh SD to Host Camp Invention for Elementary Students

Est. Read Time: 2 mins

Southern Lehigh School District (SLSD) will host Camp Invention July 8-12 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Hopewell Elementary School for children
entering second through sixth grades. The camp is open to Southern Lehigh students as well as students from outside the district.

This year’s Camp Invention program–Supercharged–helps children cultivate the ideas critical to Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). Children are presented with fun, hands-on activities that encourage creative problem solving, teamwork, entrepreneurship and curiosity. The program also builds an understanding that failure is a necessary component on the path to success.

Supercharged is comprised of four modules. In Deep Sea Mystery, children team up to rebuild ships and design underwater equipment. In DIY Orbot, children explore circuit boards, motors and gears as they design a remote control bot to take on obstacles from sports to dance. Children collaborate
with inventor superheroes and take on roles of engineers, fabricators and innovators to conquer villains in Innovation Force. Lastly, children become successful entrepreneurs in Farm Tech, where they code bots to turn a polluted wasteland into a money-making machine and create devices to save animals.

The Camp Invention program is directed by SLSD teacher David Kohler.

All program components are led by local, certified educators and grouped by grade level.

“Attending just one year of Camp Invention results in greater creativity, STEM interest and problem-solving,” said Kohler. “Participation leads to increased attendance, improved test scores and a higher GPA.”

The program’s cost is $230 per child. Several discounts are available.

Through March 22, use promo code INNOVATE25CP to save $25. From March 23 through May 10, use promo code PLAY15BOX to save $15. Households with multiple children can save $25 per child with promo code
SIBLING (no expiration).

Registrations made more than 60 days before the start of camp may take
advantage of a payment installation plan.

Hopewell Elementary School is located at 4625 W. Hopewell Road in Center Valley.
