In Tuesday’s conference duel the Saucon Valley girls soccer team (7-4) reigned supreme over the Pen Argyl Green Knights (7-6), keeping alive hopes to make Colonial League playoffs.
The Panthers struck first with a trademark trek up the right by junior wing Maria Donahue and a consummately centered ball to senior striker Lauren Giles, who keenly kneed it in. The Knights answered within minutes on a touch off a penalty kick. The bout was even at the half, 1-1.
Heralding their signature Panther Pressure, Saucon Valley curated a hat trick in the final 40 minutes of play. At 24:03 Giles crossed a gorgeous grounder to junior Jorryn Kyra who drilled it deep inside the back right corner. With 6:37 on the clock the Panthers kept battling and Kyra adroitly headed in a third goal. Then with :30 left to play, it was senior sweeper Lexi Guerrieri tapping a penalty kick to center midfielder Caroline Gilbert, who also found the net. As the Panther defense’s gravitas held the Knights scoreless in the second half, the final score was 4-1.
The Panthers host Notre Dame-Green Pond in the last conference match of the regular season on Thursday, Oct. 3 at 4 p.m. A senior recognition is planned to follow.
