The National Weather Service has issued a high wind warning for potentially damaging winds late Saturday night and Sunday.
In a statement, the NWS said northwest winds of 25 to 35 mph with gusts as high as 60 mph will affect eastern Pennsylvania after midnight.
The NWS said the highest winds are expected from about 5 a.m. Sunday till early Sunday afternoon, when there could be downed trees and power lines, resulting in power outages.
“To prepare, do not park vehicles where trees can fall on them,” the statement said.
Residents are also being encouraged to:
- Keep all electronic devices charged
- Make sure that generators are working and properly ventilated
Bridge restrictions could also be issued because of the high wind warning, which is issued when winds of at least 40 mph or gusts of at least 58 mph are expected.
In addition to the high wind warning, the weather service has also issued a wind chill advisory for wind chills as low as 20 below zero between 6 a.m. Sunday and 11 a.m. Monday.
A wind chill advisory is issued when very cold air and strong winds will combine to create potentially dangerous wind chills.
“If you must venture outdoors, make sure to dress in layers and cover exposed skin,” the weather service advised.
Sunday’s high is forecast to be 13 degrees, and Monday morning’s low temperature in Hellertown is forecast to be -6.
