Lower Saucon Township Police are warning residents never to give out their credit card numbers, debit card numbers or bank information over the phone, after a Rustic Lane resident was reportedly scammed out of more than $2,000 by a man who called and told him he worked for Microsoft.

Police said in a news release Wednesday that the scammer told the male victim he “was conducting an update on his computer.”

After the victim provided his debit card number, police said the money was withdrawn from his account and wired to China via Western Union.

If someone calls and asks for your personal financial details over the phone, “it very well may be a scam,” police said in the news release.
