Mateo ‘Poppy’ Peña, 86, Formerly of Bethlehem (Obituary Brought to You by Heintzelman Funeral Home)

Mateo “Poppy” Peña, 86, formerly of Bethlehem, died Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2015 at Old Orchard Health Care, Bethlehem Township. He was the husband of the late Margaret M. Peña (died Nov. 15, 2015). He was born in Patillas, Puerto Rico on June 29, 1929 to the late Fermin Peña and Paula (Rivera) Peña. Mateo worked at Shawnee Penn, Bethlehem. where he worked for 30 years and was known for starting the union. He was a member of Holy Infancy Catholic Church, Bethlehem. Mateo was a loving father and grandfather. He enjoyed fishing and playing dominoes.

Daughters: Carmen M. (Motley B.) Davis of Easton, Yvonne M. Peña of Bethlehem; siblings: Juanito, Jesus (Hilda), in Puerto Rico; Eusebio (Blanca), Santiago (Luz), Jose Antonio (Milagros), all of Bethlehem; Carmen (Ramiro) de Rodriguez of San Juan, Puerto Rico; granddaughter: Michelle M. (Charles) Thom of Bethlehem Township; great-grandchildren: Arianna and Armando Thom. He was predeceased by his son: Matthew Peña Jr. (July 18, 2010); and siblings: Octavio, Agripino, Guillermo, Anna, Joaquin.

SERVICE

Family and friends are invited to call from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 14, 2015 and 8:15 to 9:15 a.m. Monday at the Heintzelman Funeral Home Inc., 326 Main St.,– Hellertown. The Monday morning calling hour will be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at the church, 312 E. Fourth St., Bethlehem.
