A Lower Saucon Township resident was the target of a scam artist who tried to sell her $700 in needless software, township police said in a news release Wednesday.

According to police the woman received a phone call Tuesday from a man who claimed to work for “Windows,” who then “advised her that her computer had multiple error messages on it that needed attention.”

The woman granted the man remote access to her computer which he used to “manipulate it” and attempt to sell her approximately $700 in software, police said.

The scam was only stopped when the woman turned off her computer, they added.

Police are advising residents never to provide personal information over the phone and to be aware of similar-type scams.
