Est. Read Time: < 1 min

One person is dead following a fire Thursday at the Society Hill development in Lower Saucon Township, police confirmed early Friday.

A Se-Wy-Co Fire Co. truck is parked outside the scene of a fatal fire in the Society Hill development in Lower Saucon Township Thursday.

In a news release police said officers were called to 1859 Mansfield Street for a welfare check Thursday night, and when they “arrived they found there had been a fire in the home with one fatality.”

Northampton County Coroner Zach Lysek was called to the scene and the investigation into the death is ongoing, police said.

In a story published by the Morning Call Thursday, the victim was identified as a 68-year-old woman and it was stated that a “burned chair” was found inside the home.

The story indicated that the fire was already out by the time authorities responded, after a neighbor reported evidence of a fire.

Police said the investigation into the fatal fire is continuing and more information will be released upon its completion.

Society Hill is a large residential complex off Friedensville Road that includes townhouses and apartments/condominiums. Many residents took to social media Thursday night to question the presence of police, fire and UGI personnel in the Mansfield Street neighborhood.
