Pets in Need of Homes: Deputy (Brought to You by A Furry Tail Come True)

Est. Read Time: 2 mins

Hello. My name is Deputy. I hear that I am somewhat of a celebrity in the local rescue world. Unfortunately, that isn’t a good thing in my case. It’s because I’ve been living in a shelter for almost five years now. I am the canine resident that has been at The Center for Animal Health and Welfare in Easton, Pa., the longest.

It’s tough sometimes trying to stay positive, watching so many other dogs come and go and get passed by…again. I’m about nine years old now and I’m not as sharp and spry as I used to be, but I’m a long way from throwing in the towel, I promise you. I still love to go trail walking, splash through streams and play fetch with my friends.

I am a favorite of many staff and volunteers, so when people say negative things about me, because I’ve been here so long…I know that isn’t true, because too many people love me here for that to be true. I can be honest and say that I am not one of those dogs that makes friends with everybody they meet. I am leery of strangers and can be reactive through my kennel, but if you are willing to make multiple visits and really spend the time getting to know me, I am sure you will adore me like the others do.

I feel bad if I’m sounding ungrateful, because everyone here is really nice to me (and I often get special treatment) but I really, really want the chance to have a forever home of my own. To have a family, yard, snuggle buddy…all my own, that I don’t have to share. Oh, and a Christmas tree, with my own presents under it! Yes, that’s what I’m wishing for! Please let this be the year that I get my turn to go to my forever home.
