Pets in Need of Homes: Deputy (Brought to You by A Furry Tail Come True)
Deputy has been a shelter dog for almost five years, and is currently the longest-boarded canine resident at the Center for Animal Health and Welfare in Williams Township.
Hello. My name is Deputy. I hear that I am somewhat of a celebrity in the local rescue world. Unfortunately, that isnāt a good thing in my case. Itās because Iāve been living in a shelter for almost five years now. I am the canine resident that has been at The Center for Animal Health and Welfare in Easton, Pa., the longest.
Itās tough sometimes trying to stay positive, watching so many other dogs come and go and get passed byā¦again. Iām about nine years old now and Iām not as sharp and spry as I used to be, but Iām a long way from throwing in the towel, I promise you. I still love to go trail walking, splash through streams and play fetch with my friends.
I am a favorite of many staff and volunteers, so when people say negative things about me, because Iāve been here so longā¦I know that isnāt true, because too many people love me here for that to be true. I can be honest and say that I am not one of those dogs that makes friends with everybody they meet. I am leery of strangers and can be reactive through my kennel, but if you are willing to make multiple visits and really spend the time getting to know me, I am sure you will adore me like the others do.
I feel bad if Iām sounding ungrateful, because everyone here is really nice to me (and I often get special treatment) but I really, really want the chance to have a forever home of my own. To have a family, yard, snuggle buddyā¦all my own, that I donāt have to share. Oh, and a Christmas tree, with my own presents under it! Yes, thatās what Iām wishing for! Please let this be the year that I get my turn to go to my forever home.
