Felon Had Loaded Smith & Wesson in Car’s Backseat, Police Say

Lower Saucon Township Police said Friday that a Philadelphia man who is a felon was arrested after he was allegedly found to be in possession of a loaded Smith & Wesson firearm following a search of his vehicle early Friday morning.

In a news release, police said officers were dispatched to Seidersville Road and Rt. 378 for a report of a disabled vehicle shortly after midnight.

There they made contact with Gregory L. Wilson Jr., 36, of the 6700 block of Stenton Avenue, whose car had run out of gas, according to the news release.

Police said there was an odor of marijuana emanating from Wilson’s vehicle and that during a “pat-down” search “two controlled substance pills were located on (his) person.”

A search of the vehicle followed, during which the gun was allegedly found in the car’s backseat.

Wilson has been charged with Possession of Prohibited Firearms and carrying a firearm without a license, both of which are felonies.

According to court records, Wilson has also been charged with possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor.

Wilson was committed to Northampton County Prison in lieu of $25,000 bail following an arraignment before District Judge Jacqueline Taschner, the records indicated.
