Michael J. Gittings, 86, of Hellertown (Obituary Brought to You by Heintzelman Funeral Home)

Michael J. Gittings, 86, of Hellertown, died Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2017 at St. Luke’s University Hospital, Fountain Hill. He was the husband of Mary A. (Anthony) Gittings. Michael was born in Bethlehem on March 30, 1930 to the late Michael and Edna (Gorick) Gittings. He worked in the blast furnace as a slagger at Bethlehem Steel for several years. He also owned and operated a trucking company for many years until his retirement. He was a member of St. Theresa of the Child Jesus RC Church, Hellertown. Michael served our country honorably in the U.S. Army during two tours of service. He was a recipient of the Korean Service Medal along with two Bronze stars and a UN Service Medal.

SURVIVORS

In addition to his wife of 66 years; children: Sharon A. (Gregory J.) Stauffer, Michael J. Jr. and Roseann M. (Gary T.) Steffin, all of Hellertown; three grandchildren: Ryan Stauffer, Serena Calario, Megan Zagwoski; and five great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by siblings.

SERVICE

Family and friends are invited to call from noon to 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 13, 2017 at the Heintzelman Funeral Home Inc., 326 Main St., Hellertown.
