A Bethlehem man who police say called 911 for help and told an operator he had run out of gas on Rt. 378 at Frederick Street didn’t have a car with him and was cited for alleged public drunkenness, Lower Saucon Township Police said Wednesday.

According to police, Jared Fritz, of the 2300 block of Huntington Street, called 911 at 2:50 a.m. Sunday.

“When police arrived, Fritz was found walking on the shoulder of the roadway in an intoxicated state,” police said. “He stated that he was trying to get home after ‘friends’ dropped him off in the area.”

After citing him, police said a taxi was called for Fritz “and he was sent home.”
