Lower Saucon Township Police Saturday released a description of the suspect in a May 12 “distraction burglary” in which they say $2,100 in cash was stolen from a resident of the 1900 block of Polk Valley Road.
According to police, the man who posed as a Hellertown Borough Authority (water authority) employee is a “darker-skinned (possibly black) male, average build, approximately 5 feet 9 inches, (with) shorter brown hair.”
Police said he was wearing dark pants and a dark jacket and presented a photo ID at the time of the burglary, which happened after noon.
After the man told the victim that he needed to check the water meter in his basement, police said the two went downstairs and spent about 20 minutes there.
Later, after the man posing as a water authority employee had left, police said the victim noticed that the cash was missing from upstairs.
“This is a common (type of) distraction burglary in which a second offender enters the residence to steal money, jewelry, items, etc., while the homeowner is distracted by the first offender,” police said.
