The Mill Road Bridge near Gun Club Road in Upper Saucon Township is closed until further notice.

An 84-year-old bridge in Upper Saucon Township is closed after officials with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation determined it may have sustained structural damage as a result of flooding Tuesday night.

The Mill Road Bridge spans a tributary to Saucon Creek and is closed “due to damage that likely occurred during last night’s flooding,” PennDot said Wednesday.

The concrete slab bridge is 12 feet long, 26 feet wide and is located between Robin Lane and Gun Club Road, about a mile west of Coopersburg.

“The Bridge has significant undermining of one of its abutments,” PennDOT said, adding that it will remain closed until further notice.

Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes.

The affected section of Mill Road has an average daily traffic volume of 2,615 vehicles, according to PennDOT statistics.
