Police in Hilltown Township, Bucks County, say an attempt by an alleged fraudster to cash a stolen check was foiled when the man tried to cash the personal check…at a bank where the man he allegedly stole it from works.

Matthew Boyd, 44, is wanted by Hilltown Township Police on forgery and other charges.

Police said Wednesday on their Crimewatch page that Matthew Boyd, 44, no address given, visited QNB at 750 Souderton Road, Souderton, on Oct. 12 and presented a personal check “made payable to the person presenting it” to be cashed.

“The personal check just so happened to be a check belonging to one of the bank employees,” police said.

“The employee did not issue or authorize the subject to have possession of or cash his personal check (and) the employee stated he recently lost his check,” police added.

According to police, a subsequent investigation revealed that the man who was allegedly in possession of the check is Matthew Boyd, for whom an arrest warrant on charges of forgery (Felony 2), theft (Misdemeanor 1), theft by deception (Misdemeanor 1), receiving stolen property (Misdemeanor 1) and access device fraud (Misdemeanor 3) has been issued.

Anyone with information about Boyd’s whereabouts is asked to call 911 or submit a tip via the Hilltown Township Police Department Crimewatch site.
