The annual Light-Up Night event sponsored by the Hellertown-Lower Saucon Chamber of Commerce was held Friday night, and in spite of frigid temperatures drew hundreds of people to the Hellertown borough complex and Detwiller Plaza.
Light-Up Night marks the traditional start of the holiday season in the Saucon Valley, and features caroling by local Girl Scouts, a performance by the Saucon Valley High School band, free hot cocoa and cookies, and the illumination of decorated shrubbery and trees around the plaza fountain and Borough Hall.
Light-Up Night 2014 was the first in a number of years held with snow cover on the ground, which made the atmosphere feel particularly appropriate for the season.
The evening was capped with Santa’s arrival on a Dewey Fire Co. fire truck, to the delight of the dozens of children in attendance. Photos with Santa were available inside Borough Hall.
