Hellertown, L. Saucon Receive Casino Grants

Both Hellertown and Lower Saucon Township were recipients of casino revenue grants awarded by the Northampton County Gaming Revenue and Economic Redevelopment Authority April 27, Lehigh Valley Ramblings reported.

Hellertown borough received $207,034 to pay for two police officers, while Lower Saucon Township received $101,897 to pay for a police officer position and $30,294 to purchase a police cruiser, the blog story indicated.

A total of $1.66 million was awarded, with other grants distributed to Bethlehem Township, Freemansburg, Hanover Township and the county, the story said.

Hellertown’s representative on the gaming authority is business owner David Heintzelman; Lower Saucon’s representative is councilman David Willard.

The revenue that is used for the grants is generated by the Sands casino in Bethlehem.

It is dispensed annually to the city and neighboring municipalities that are impacted by the casino.
