Plan for Townhomes at Silver Creek CC Advances

A plan by a local developer to build as many as 125 upscale townhomes at Silver Creek Country Club in Lower Saucon Township is moving forward, according to published reports in area newspapers.

David Spirk of Spirk Brothers Contracting and Silver Land Group LLC received permission from township council last week to have his representatives work with township staff on the project’s design and engineering, WFMZ-TV Channel 69 News reported.

Silver Land Group attorney James Preston told council the project is needed to help the 67-year-old club remain economically viable, and Spirk noted that the entire property could potentially be sold off and redeveloped if his project–which will preserve some open space–isn’t approved, the television station reported.

The Morning Call reported that 100 acres of land will be preserved as open space.

The townhomes themselves are expected to be about 3,000 square feet in size and sell for $300,000 to $500,000, with empty nesters being the target demographic for the new community, the newspaper’s article indicated.

The townhomes will be grouped in three clusters along the club’s perimeter, near New Jersey Avenue and Apple Street (north), Durham Street (central), and Panther Way (south).

Partly because the northernmost cluster of homes would be adjacent to the borough’s eastern boundary line, Hellertown officials have said in the past that they would like a “seat at the table” during talks about the development proposal.

Spirk, a Lower Saucon Township resident, is chairman of its parks and recreation commission.
