A Lower Saucon Township man is charged with risking a catastrophe, criminal mischief and disorderly conduct, after police say he misused a fire extinguisher and caused more than $6,000 in damage which resulted in the temporary evacuation of a group home in the 2500 block of Applebutter Road Jan. 9.

In a news release issued Thursday, police said Darnell Woods, 26, was “upset at his roommate” when he allegedly discharged the contents of the the fire extinguisher throughout the facility, which is managed by Mainstay Life Services.

Authorities were dispatched to the home for a report of a dwelling fire and Woods told them he had set a fire, although it was discovered he “never actually set a fire,” police said.

After Woods was arraigned on charges before District Judge David Tidd he was released on unsecured bail, they added.

Woods is also facing charges of disorderly conduct and criminal mischief as a result of an alleged incident that occurred in late November, when police say he caused $3,400 in damage at the group home after he became upset with staff.
