Crossroads Hotel is located at 1443 Main St., Hellertown.
The Morning Call reported Wednesday that the former Matey’s Crossroads Hotel in Hellertown has been sold to the owners of the Wagon Wheel–a popular tavern in East Rockhill Township, Bucks County, known for its buffalo wings–and will reopen with its popular menu and much of its former staff in place by Oct. 10.
In an article published by the newspaper, James Tulio, the son of new owner Joe Tulio and a chef at the Wagon Wheel, said his father doesn’t want to change much in terms of the restaurant’s decor, but would like to remove the iconic, massive blue marlin that has hung in its main dining room since it was caught off the Jersey shore by local fishermen in the summer of 1980.
The Crossroads was owned and operated by the Matey family of Hellertown from 1953 until it closed in early May, when it was thronged by local residents and former area residents who came from as far away as Texas to enjoy one last cheesesteak or pizza.
The mounted blue marlin that was caught off the coast of New Jersey in the summer of 1980 has been a focal point inside Crossroads Hotel in Hellertown for more than 35 years.
