The easy charm of a fall afternoon in Lower Saucon Township will be on display at the Lower Saucon Township Historical Society’s annual Apple Festival on Saturday, Oct. 1 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the historic Lutz-Franklin School on Countryside Lane.
The festival features lots of old-fashioned family fun, including:
- Cake walks at 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. (2 tickets for $1)
- Varieties of apples for tasting
- Apple-themed baked goods from Tombler’s Bakery for sale
- Face-painting for kids
- A make-your-own-bluebird-house station ($5 each)
- An apple dessert contest in the afternoon
- Hayrides through the new Woodland Hills Preserve (located near the school) from noon to 2 p.m. (Adults: $2; Children: $1)
- Pictures with Johnny Appleseed
- Tours of the 1880 one-room school
- Music by the John Samuels Trio from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
- Hot dogs, sausages and drinks for sale
- Lower Saucon Township history books for sale
The schoolhouse is located at 4216 Countryside Lane, Hellertown.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the historical society, which is dedicated to preserving the history of Lower Saucon Township and the schoolhouse.
