Freezing Rain Advisory Issued for Early Tuesday

Tuesday morning’s commute to work and/or school could be an icy one due to light freezing rain, according to forecasters.

The National Weather Service has issued a freezing rain advisory for the Lehigh Valley for 4 to 10 a.m. Tuesday, when a period of light rain could result in a light glaze on some roads.

“Freezing rain showers will move into the area overnight with a steadier period of light freezing rain around sunrise,” the NWS said. “Icing may create slippery road conditions during the morning commute.”

Temperatures are forecast to rise above freezing by mid-morning, with Tuesday’s high predicted to be 40 degrees.

Eastern PA Weather Authority meteorologist Bobby Martrich said in his discussion of east central Pennsylvania weather Tuesday that “temperatures will be close to freezing (Monday night); warm enough for most areas to be too warm for frozen precipitation, but an isolated colder pocket area could have a bit of light freezing rain/drizzle to start.”

Icy road conditions Friday morning caused a two-hour delay for Saucon Valley students and resulted in accidents on local roads.
