A member of Hellertown Borough Council and local attorney has declared his candidacy for the office of magisterial district judge for Hellertown and Lower Saucon Township, Northampton County.

Attorney and Hellertown borough councilman James Hill has declared his candidacy for the position of magisterial district judge for Hellertown and Lower Saucon Township.

James Hill is a lifelong area resident who is a graduate of Lehigh University and the Pennsylvania State University Dickinson School of Law, according to a news release he provided.

He has been a practicing Pennsylvania attorney for 16 years and worked for the firm of Gardner, Racines & Sheetz before starting his own practice, it states.

Hill said he “is dedicated to the legal profession, and also to (my) community,” viewing the opportunity to serve as a district judge as “an opportunity to serve the public.”

“If elected, Attorney Hill is committed to closing his law practice,” the news release states. “This would help to avoid conflicts of interest and keep the District Judge position as his top priority. James is committed to: treating the court staff and the public with fairness and respect, being more accessible to the public with reasonable business hours, and conducting fair and impartial hearings in the courtroom, and only with the presence of all necessary parties to the proceedings.”

His “knowledge of the law, the rules of evidence and procedure, and…ability to apply the law to the facts of a given case,” combined with his experience, temperament and “firm but fair approach to criminal justice matters” will help make him an “exceptional Magisterial District Judge,” the news release also states.

Hill said he is active in the community as a member/board member of the Hellertown Lions Club and his church, and also serves on the Hellertown Civil Service Commission, the Saucon Rail Trail Oversight Commission, the Bingen Sunrise Memorial Cemetery Board and the Hellertown Historical Society Board.

He is married to Lynette.
