If you’re planning to put sweet corn on your Thanksgiving table and recently purchased a bag of Giant store brand frozen corn you may want to check it.

That’s because Giant Food Stores Wednesday announced that it has removed from sale Giant Brand Frozen Whole Kernel Sweet Corn due to potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes.
The following product is included in this recall:
- GIANT/MARTIN’S Brand Frozen Whole Kernel Sweet Corn, 16 oz., UPC 68826700676 with a Best By Date of Oct-2019
Giant said it has received no reports of illnesses to date.
“Listeria is a common organism found in nature,” the company said in a news release. “Consumption of food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, an uncommon but potentially fatal disease. Healthy people rarely contract listeriosis. However, listeriosis can cause high fever, severe headache, neck stiffness and nausea. Listeriosis can also cause miscarriages and stillbirths, as well as serious and sometimes fatal infections in those with weakened immune systems, such as infants, the elderly and persons with HIV infection or undergoing chemotherapy.”
Customers who have purchased the recalled product should discard any unused portions and bring their purchase receipt to any Giant or Martin’s store for a full refund.
